Estrella EP

RBCHMBRS

Estrella EP: RBCHMBRS debuts on 1432 R with dystopian drum and bass, warped breaks and forlorn vocal samples. Plays at 45 or 33 RPM.

Estrella is the RBCHMBRS debut on 1432 R, an inventive drum and bass record of dystopian soundscapes, jagged rhythms, warped breaks and forlorn vocal samples shot through with funk. It is cut to play at either 45 or 33 RPM, two records hiding in one.

That last detail is the key to the whole thing. A record built to work at two speeds is a small act of science fiction pressed into vinyl, the same grooves describing two different worlds depending on how fast you let time run. Estrella means star in Spanish, and the EP has the cold beauty of one: light that left long ago, arriving forlorn and a little dystopian by the time it reaches you. Breakbeats arrive already broken, spliced and rewelded, drums that sound like they were pulled from a flood and dried out wrong. Funk keeps surfacing underneath, a pulse refusing to flatline.
